Designing Hungary’s first football event management app: a user-centered approach
Working with Krisztián on the project was the best decision. His insights and suggestions helped us perfect the vision we had in mind, and we received exactly what embodies the spirit of GRUND. The process was clear, transparent, and flexible, and by progressing step-by-step and maintaining constant communication, we reached the final result.
I was the lead Product Designer, responsible for shaping the UX/UI design for Grund’s football event management app, helping our team to facilitate workshops and transforming the idea into a functional and visually appealing platform.
Since the project is under NDA, this case study focuses primarily on my contributions and role within the project, with very limited assets to showcase.
We needed to solve the issues of disorganized amateur football activities, difficult team formation, and under-digitalized field management while making the platform intuitive for both B2B and individual users.
The main challenges were:
In the preplanning and research phase, we focused on understanding user needs, analyzing the market, and preparing a strategic foundation for the app design. This phase was critical in aligning the product’s functionality with the expectations of both individual users and field operators.
All the processes that we did during the preplanning and research:
- Vision and story — We conducted a workshop with the client to establish the app’s vision. The session focused on understanding the client’s goals to create a solution that would modernize amateur football.
- User personas — Defined key personas based on research to inform feature prioritization.
- Stakeholder workshops — Collaborated with key stakeholders to gather insights on challenges and requirements.
- Value-chain analysis — Identified key touchpoints across the user journey, ensuring the app’s features added value at each stage for players, teams, and field operators.
- Competitor analysis — Identified market gaps and best practices from similar platforms.
- MVP feature development — Created a feature roadmap aligned with business goals.
- App flow planning — Mapped the user journey to enhance field booking and event management processes.
We crafted the design based on the comprehensive preplanning and research phase. Every element, from user flows to interface design, was grounded in the insights gained during workshops, stakeholder discussions, and research. I led the design process, focusing on solving key challenges like team organization, field booking, and user engagement. We created an app flow that optimized the experience for both players and field operators, ensuring all features were aligned with the project's goals.
The result was a comprehensive app design and project plan that successfully guided the client through investor negotiations. The materials and solutions we provided positioned them well, and they are now awaiting investor approval to move forward with full implementation.
Final Thoughts
I genuinely loved working on this project. As a former football player for over a decade, I personally connected with the problem the client was solving. I'm sincerely rooting for them to secure the investment they need and to begin growing as soon as possible. This project resonated with my passion for both design and the sport.
